Statement from the KT RSM for Association Members and Veterans.

Dear King’s Troop Veterans and Association Members,

I am writing to inform you of an important update regarding the King’s Birthday Parade (Trooping the Colour) from the perspective of the King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery.

This year, while the Troop will proudly parade with six guns, there will be a notable change: detachments will not be mounted. This difficult decision was made with the welfare of our horses as the foremost priority. Due to current herd numbers, it was assessed that including detachment horses would pose an unacceptable risk—not only to this parade but to future commitments as well.

This measure has been implemented to safeguard the existing herd and to ensure the Regiment can continue to deliver on its ceremonial duties. In parallel, we are accelerating remount training to introduce new military working horses into the King’s Troop herd.

We fully understand that this change may be disappointing. I assure you, it was no less so for the Commanding Officer, myself, and the soldiers of the Unit, who remain committed to delivering excellence on every parade.

As former Mounted Gunners, I trust you will appreciate that this decision was made in the best interest of preserving the Regiment’s capability and legacy. Your continued support means a great deal to us all.

I look forward to seeing many of you at upcoming events, particularly at the Warrant Officers’ and Sergeants’ Mess Reunion on 25th October.

Thank you, as always, for your unwavering support and dedication to the Regiment. Your continued connection to the Troop remains a source of great pride and strength for all serving members.
